Dr Colin Lynam quailified fom the University of Wales, College of Medicine in 2003. He completed a Vocational training qualification in Scotland over the following year. Having worked in his father PJ Lynam’s practice in Swords, he opened his own practice in Balbriggan in 2005.
Colin has kept up to date with modern dental techniques through his commitment to continual professional development. This has enabled him to expand his skills and offer patients high-quality dentistry in a relaxed and friendly environment. Colin has had great success in treating nervous and anxious patients by building their trust and creating a strong personal relationship.
Colin also currently runs Swords Dental with his wife, Dr. Lyndsey McTavish. Colin and Lyndsey have a young family and when not working or spending time with the kids he enjoys going fishing.
Dr. Lyndsey McTavish
Dental Surgeon – BDS (UWCM), MFDS, RCPS (Glasg), Dip Clin Dent (TCD) Dip Con Sed. (TCD).
Dr. Lyndsey McTavish qualified from University of Wales, College of Medicine in 2003. After working for a couple of years in her homeland of Scotland she joined Swords Dental in 2005. Lyndsey took over the running of the practice from her father in law Dr PJ Lynam.
Lyndsey enjoys keeping up to date with modern dental techniques and attends a variety of postgraduate continual dental education events. She has a postgraduate diploma in Clinical Dentistry from Trinity College Dublin and is a member of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in Glasgow.
Lyndsey is particularly happy to help nervous patients. Lyndsey has completed her Diploma in Conscious Sedation and undertakes sedation in the practice. She is a member of the International Society of Dental Anxiety Management.
Her friendly and relaxed approach will help make your visit to the dentist an easier experience.
Dr. Eimear McHugh

Eimear treats our oral surgery cases in our practice in Swords: Swords Dental. Eimear is a member of the Irish Dental Association and the Irish Association of Oral Surgery. She is also an examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland.Dr. Eimear McHugh graduated with Honours from Trinity College Dublin in 2008.
Following a year as a House Officer in the Dublin Dental University Hospital, she was employed in the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery unit at St Richard’s Hospital in Chichester, West Sussex. During this time, Dr. McHugh completed her Membership Examinations for the Faculty of Dentistry in the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin. She also obtained certification in Advanced Trauma Life Support.She then became the Executive Registrar in the Dublin Dental University Hospital and provided Oral Surgery services at the Dublin Dental University Hospital, St. Vincent’s Hospital and Crumlin Hospital for Sick Children.She completed her specialist training over three years at the Dublin Dental University Hospital, where she was awarded a doctorate in Oral Surgery and graduated with First Class Honours.
In 2014, following her specialist training, Dr. McHugh became a Fellow of the Dental Faculty of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.Dr. McHugh currently holds a teaching post at the Dublin Dental University Hospital and she is listed on the Consultant Register in the Beacon Hospital and the Mater Private Hospital.
Dental Hygenist RDH
Paula joined Balbriggan Dental in 2013 having completed a certificate course in dental nursing in 1999 followed by a diploma course in dental hygiene in university college cork. During the course she was awarded the communicator award by the university.
She has recently completed a course in smoking cessation by the HSE as well as an updated CPR-EAD course.
Paula is a member of both the Irish dental hygienist assocation and dental council.

Ciara is our Practice Manager and has been with us since 2008. She qualified in dental nursing in Trinity College Dublin in 2010. Ciara oversees the general running of the practice. She enjoys welcoming and meeting our patients and is always happy to talk people through any queries or concerns that they may have. She has an excellent rapport with both her work colleagues and our patients.
